Recessed Lighting Design Ideas
"The Impact of Designing With Recessed Lighting..."
Almost every new home includes recessed lights. Recessed lighting is perfect for hallways, entrances, stairs, bathrooms, basements, above a sink in the kitchen, and closets.
The simple, uncluttered look is suitable for nearly any room in both new and older homes. Recessed lighting design ideas are limited only by the homeowner's imagination.
There are few ceiling lighting fixtures that are as universal as recessed lighting. These lights are excellent for children's rooms.
A can is buried in the ceiling or wall, with only the bulb and ring showing. This reduces the risk of a child coming into contact with the bulb.
Accent Lights
It also makes the light safer in a closet, or other cluttered spot. Other recessed lighting design ideas include using a single light to accent artwork and other features of a room.
Recessed ceiling light fixtures can also open up dark areas, making rooms look larger. This is done by titling the bulb so it shines on the wall.
Home lighting fixtures are an integral part of the home decor. Their functionality is compounded by their efficiency.
High efficiency fluorescent light bulbs are now designed to fit in any standard home lighting fixture that can take an incandescent bulb.

Fluorescent light bulbs are not only more energy efficient than incandescent bulbs, they are cooler.
Add this to new advances in technology that make fluorescent bulbs whiter and brighter than their previous counterparts, and there is no reason why a homeowner should avoid using recessed home lighting fixtures.
IC-Rating
Recessed lighting design ideas must be limited by the light's IC rating. Non-IC rating ceiling lighting fixtures cannot be used near insulation.
The basic rule of thumb when choosing home lighting fixtures is to match the fixtures to the distance between the person and the ceiling.
The standard six-inch recessed ceiling light fixture would be more suited to a stairwell where the ceiling vaults above the stairs.
A family room in the basement, where the ceiling may be lower than eight feet, would suit a four inch recessed home lighting fixture.
This also applies for using recessed lighting for reading. If the light is over a desk or a sink, use the four inch diameter. As with any electrical project, seek advice before renovating, and make sure there are no unforeseen hazards.
Most important, is to remember that you cannot just extract an old ceiling lighting fixture and install a recessed one. There are building code restrictions that can cause problems unless they are taken into consideration before installation.
Now let's consider a wood floor lamp....
